Think About It Thursday (19): Did Not Finish

I’m the type of reader that reads everything until the very end. I don’t care if I’m not enjoying the book that much, if I can’t stand the characters, or if I want to throw the book against the wall. For some reason, I NEED to finish it.

But seeing as how my reading time has been so strained lately, I’ve begun the difficult process of giving up on books. I’ve had several that I’ve put down and never picked back up because I just couldn’t get into them. It’s sad, but necessary.

I don’t have a set page number where I say ‘It’s over,’ and I try to get into the story, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I’m having that problem right now with Why We Broke Up…and I was debating making some snarky post about why I broke up with Why We Broke Up, but I chose to just do this.
I haven’t written up any reviews for books I didn’t finish, but I know others do.

Is this something you’d like to see? Do you have books that you have to give up on? Do you have certain criteria, page numbers, etc. that you meet before you give up?

For those of you who are interested in some DNF books, Lori from Pure Imagination has this interesting feature called Book Break Ups, where she spotlights books she had to put down, but also includes links to positive reviews by others.

I'm always interested in seeing what others mark as DNF. I am actually working on my first DNF blog psot this week. I have never done one before. I feel like I should have a more-well rounded blog.. I mean I blab on and on about the books I love, so I guess I should mention the books I didn't finish.

I don't really have a certain criteria. I usually stop if I don't feel an attachment to the characters and/ or stories. I do know one book where I almost stopped because it was so boring. I stuck with it and loved it. Yeah, I'd like to see reviews where people couldn't finish the book. It gives more information to other readers, so they can decide to read it or not.

I try to complete all but definitely will not torture myself. I have realised that books I start but realise i'm not in the mood for sometimes continue to sit on the shelf but I don't consider DNF books.

I enjoy reading DNF thoughts.

Thanks for commenting, Amy! I'm considering writing up small reviews or why I had to stop reading posts, so I can share exactly why it didn't work for me and why it could easily work for someone else.

Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a book either, but I find it even harder to pick a book back up once I put it down. I have a few that I've put down, with every intention to try it again, but it hasn't happened.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Marce! I'm going to start brainstorming some kind of post to compile a few DNF books/thoughts.
