It's official: The main roles in The Hunger Games movie have been cast.
Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark
There's been some anger with the casting choices, but I'm okay with it. The Hunger Games is always going to be this incredible book series - one of my all-time favorites, alongside Harry Potter - but people need to realize that the books and the movie(s) are two separate things.
Based on looks alone, this casting is all wrong, but that's what makeup, hair dye, and contacts are for. The casting could be 100x worse. I actually like Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. I think he makes a really good fit for him. I can't judge Jennifer and Liam, but I have faith that the movie will work.
Jennifer Lawrence is an Oscar-nominated actress. Meaning: the girl is good. I haven't seen anything she's in, but I did pick up one of her movies and plan on watching it soon.
Josh Hutcherson was in an Oscar-nominated movie and has been acting for quite a while. Meaning: the boy is good. I've actually seen several movies he's been in and he's a good actor.
Liam Hemsworth is....okay, I've never seen The Last Song, so I have no clue how well Liam can act. In fact, I think the worst thing about him being cast, is that he loses a lot of credibility because he was in a movie with Miley Cyrus. He could be a fantastic actor. We just need to give him a shot. It seems like he was brought in for some eye candy (and can I just say 'yum') but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Suzanne Collins had some serious input into the casting of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, so I have a feeling the producers let her in on the casting of Peeta and Gale as well. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth had the chemistry and brought the right stuff, so let's wait for the movie to judge.
