Author Interview: Kim Harrington

Kim Harrington lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. When not writing, she's most likely reading, watching one of her favorite TV shows, or fantasizing about her next vacation. She has no psychic powers and is cool with that. Her debut young adult novel, Clarity, is coming out March 1, 2011 from Scholastic.
*Bio taken from Kim's website
When did it hit you that you're going to be a published author and other people will be able to walk into a bookstore and buy your book?
The day my editor emailed me my cover. Before then, it didn’t feel real to me yet. But seeing my name on the cover made me realize it wasn’t just a dream anymore!
What were your first thoughts when you saw the cover for CLARITY (Aside from 'ooh, bumpy words)?
“Whoa.” All I knew was that there would be a model and she would have Clare’s bright blue eyes. Then I opened the email attachment. The cover was so bright and fresh looking. I loved the ocean and seagulls in the background. And the model did a great job of giving a snarky, Clare-ish look.
I luvs this cover like woah!

Is there any object in your house that Clare might touch and get a particularly strange vision from?
Yes. My mother’s stuffed giraffe.
I'm so happy the giraffe could make an appearance here at the blog. People, you must read that post. MUST.
If you could live in one book for a day, what would it be?
Fodor’s Guide to the Bahamas. Especially now. *looks outside at four feet of snow*
You'll be happy to know that there is no longer four feet of snow outside. More like a foot because it's all melting. We now have a severe floodwatch :)
Aladdin has let you borrow his magic carpet for the night: what fictional character do you take with you for a night amongst the clouds? And do you sing to one another??
I can’t really use any of my favorite YA characters because they’re so much younger than me. (Sorry Peeta!) I’ll go with Rick Castle from “Castle.” And, HELL YES, he’d sing.
Rick Castle. Le sigh...
What is the craziest thing that has ever happened to you?
I nearly died when I was five. That’s kind of crazy. But I lived…obviously. :)(Thank you, Boston Children’s Hospital!)
Wow. Near death is not cool, but I already had some serious love for Boston Children's Hospital. They saved you and they took care of my little brother, so yays all around.

And the most important question last: What is your favorite kind of cookie?
Peanut Blossoms. They’re peanut butter cookies with Hershey’s Kisses on top. So yummy!
Is salivating.

Great post, I have seen this book on a couple bloggers sites, and thought sounds good, but I have tons of books on my TBR pile already -- but well she's a fan of Castle & obviously has a great sense of humour -- so now I am off to order a copy
