No Name-Calling Week (January 24-28th)

No Name-Calling Week was inspired by the YA novel The Misfits by James Howe. The book is about four seventh grade friends that are motivated by taunts, jeers, and name-calling to create a political party in their school to fight the inequities they experience and see around them. They don't win in their school's election, but their action prompts a No Name-Calling Day at their school.

This novel and this idea was the launching point for GLSEN and Simon & Schuster's No Name-Calling Week.

My participation in the week, was prompted by the great post by Jessica @ Confessions of a Bookaholic. Her post really explains the week and what we can do to help.

Check out the official No Name-Calling Week website and see what you can do to help.

I'll be posting a Think About It Thursday: No Name-Calling Edition tomorrow - It may even be vlog style, so stay tuned.

I'm so happy to see blog posts about it and I've seen a few teachers say they plan to do things in their classrooms for No Name-Calling week. So exciting!

Thanks for helping spread the word! <3
