NaNoWriMo Update

So I'm officially 9 days into NaNoWriMo and my first foray into writing has been a lot different than what I expected. In many ways, the past 8 days of writing has been a blast and a lot easier than I expected. I've never forced myself to sit down and write, so this has been an experience.

In other ways, it has been extremely difficult. My goal is to write 2,000 words a day, which doesn't seem like much, but can be quite difficult. That, coupled with the fact that I do enjoy having a life, has made my goal sometimes difficult to reach. Despite the fact that I haven't sat down to write every single day, I still have a good word count.

Word Count: 15,843

I'm not the type of person who shares what she's writing. Even my family and friends don't know what it's about, just that I'm writing something, but I wanted to share a little with all of you.

A little about my WIP:
My story is still untitled, but it's a contemporary YA novel, told from 3 different perspectives. It follows the lives of three teens - two boys, one girl (no love triangle involved) - after the death of a close friend/family member. I'm still trying to get to know my characters and my plot isn't fleshed out, but I like where it's going so far.

I figured NaNoWriMo would severely cut into my reading time and I was prepared for that. Yet, somehow, I've read more in the past week than I have in a long while. My thinking is that the best way to write a contemporary YA novel, is to read as many contemporary YA novels as I can. So that is exactly what I have been doing, but my shelves are beginning to run low on them. I doubt I'll have enough to get me through the month, so I'll be looking for more.

Sorry for the extremely long update post, but just one last thing.

Any suggestions for some great contemporary YA?? I'd be forever grateful.
