James Dashner Signing

James Dashner is currently on tour to promote the release of The Scorch Trials, the second book in The Maze Runner series. He was in Burlington, MA last night and I made my way down to see him.
A nice little crowd came out and James did a little Q&A and talked a bit about the series. I really need to start bringing a notebook or something to signings because I never remember exactly what said, but here's what I remember:
  • The series is set about 200 years in the future and James was somewhat inspired by Lord of the Flies and Ender's Game
  • James says his hero is Stephen King and he loves many of his books
  • Is currently reading Under the Dome on his iPad and he discussed books vs. ebooks. Says he likes the feel of books, but the what's written is really all that matters
  • The Death Cure (3rd book in the series) is already written and he's working on revisions
  • He is currently working on another series, but he can't talk about it yet
  • Aspires to write a screenplay someday
  • Is a big movie buff. His favorite movies are the Lord of the Rings series, The Matrix movies, and the Aliens movies. He hates 3D
James then signed and personalized everyone's books and took pictures. The signing was a blast and if you have the chance to see James on the tour, I suggest you do it. He is such a nice guy and I hope to see him again in the future.

I also met some other Boston-area bloggers, including Gail from A Ticket to Anywhere, Danielle from Frenzy of Noise, and Emily from Dragons Ate My Homework. Safe to say that it was a blast.

This sounds like so much fun, Nikki! I'm sad I wasn't moved in time for this...I'm finally in the area, and it sounds bloody awesome! Nice pic! :)

Yay, I'm so glad I got to meet you and the other ladies! Hopefully we'll get some other great authors into our store soon - I'll let you know if we do, since I usually know prior to us posting it online or around the store...

I'm soooooooo jealous! I'd love to meet him and hear about this series directly from him. Wonder how I can convince him to come to my town :)

Alyssa - I've only been to a few tauthor signings in the past, but I love going to them. It's always fun to get to meet the author behind the book.

Melissa - How did I not realize that you were moving? And that you were moving to my neck of the woods? Hopefully we can get together in the future at a signing. I'll definitely let you know about any signings in the area :D

Emily - It was a blast getting to meet all of you the other night! I actually went back today to see Leila Sales. I'm hoping there will be some great signings in the future for all of us to hang out at.

Jill - I hope he comes to your area in the future because he is so, so nice. If you start talking to him about Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movie, maybe tell him you have some connection to Peter Jackson, he'll probably detour from his scheduled events and go directly to you. He loves those movies!
