Eclipse Movie Review

First off, Jacob is my favorite character in the series. He was when I read the books and he always will be. Prior to the movies coming out, I was Team Switzerland. I was torn between Edward and Jacob, but now that the movies are out, I am completely Team Jacob.

New Moon is my favorite book in the series and I really enjoyed the movie, but I expected Eclipse to blow it out of the water. It didn’t. At least not for me. It was good. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the movie and will probably see it again, but it was just lacking. The trailers make it look incredible, but I just felt like there was so much talking; Just endless minutes of dialogue with nothing actually happening. I just wish there was more to it.

Pacing was just an issue for me and the constant cuts to Seattle were repetitive, though great because I kind of love Riley in the movie. The movie moved along fast enough, but it was one scene of all dialogue to another scene of all dialogue. A lot didn't seem to happen while all the talking was going on. Aside from that, there were a number of things missing that I would have loved to have been in the film. More Cullen time is a must and some little, but pivotal and awesome, scenes here and there could have been included. Imprinting was explained, but there was no Claire, so people are going to be thrown for a loop with the Cannibaby
(Renesemee). (In case you were wondering, I refer to Nessie as Cannibaby because I always picture >>>>when thinking about her and her birth).

The actual fight was way  too short with the amount of buildup they provided in the film. Fleshing Riley out and giving him a storyline took the power away from Victoria and made her feel like less of the villain. Xavier Samuel  stole the show here and while that's awesome for him, it made me care more about Riley than the main characters at times. There were a bunch of other things that I didn’t like, but I don’t feel like going into detail.

There were things I enjoyed. The acting is much better. Rob and Kristen finally seem comfortable with their characters and it shows. Billy Burke once again rocked it as Charlie. I wish there were so many more scenes between Charlie/Bella because they have so much chemistry together. Jasper and Rosalie’s back stories were shown, but I wish we saw more. As a Jacob fan, I loved him in the movie, but the deviation from the books may cause some problems in the future.

(Spoiler alert for those who live under a rock and don’t know how the series ends)

Bella chooses Edward in the end. It’s an inevitability. So why do we have this two hour movie where Jacob seems like the completely obvious and perfect choice. I’m not just saying that because I wish it would happen. Jacob is so much easier to feel for in Eclipse; whereas in the book, he’s viewed in a more slanted light. He’s not this perfect hero who adores Bella and wants to be with her forever. He manipulates her in the books and comes off as more of the bad boy kind of guy. In the movie, it’s nearly impossible to not root for him.

I think Eclipse will have even more people walking out of the theaters questioning their loyalty to Edward. And that’s not a good thing because we all know how it ends and more and more people are going to be unhappy about it.

Eclipse wasn’t nearly as good as I had imagined, but I hope everyone else enjoys it. I’m not looking forward to Breaking Dawn Fail at all, but I’ll still see it. Just to torture myself a little more. I think it’s the masochist in me.

Though I didn't love Eclipse, I adored Xavier Samuel in it. He took this minor character that could have been ignored as just another villain, and he demanded attention. I really wish Riley didn't have to die in the end because I would have loved to see him more.

Hi,
I'm Team Jacob And I didn't like Eclipse too.
I don't even know what was the problem. The only thing that I like was Taylor.
I want to watch it again but I thought the movie was so boring xD I just want the Jacob scenes.
And I so agree with you...they will have a problem in the future. That's why I think they left out the Bella's vision of her future with Jake.
Great review!

Just saw it tonight. I tried just sitting back and enjoying it without too many expectations. I laughed out loud when Jacob says "I'm hotter than you." Best line ever. Great review!
